Cult favourite Turbo Tango makes highly anticipated return for its diehard Millennial fans and for a new generation of Tango fans
After years of relentless petitions, YouTube videos, and social media threads begging for its comeback, the drink that claimed its fame as the world’s first aerosol soft drink, Turbo Tango, is making its highly anticipated return this month. And no, this is not an internet rumour.
First launched in 2011, Turbo Tango - an aerosol powered can that dispenses Tango as an edible foamy spray - achieved instant cult status with Millennials. Its intense, unexpected delivery made Tango more than a drink, creating an experience people remembered long after it disappeared from shelves and leaving behind a legacy for Gen Z that has lived on through social media, online communities and nostalgic conversations for more than a decade.
And fans clearly haven’t forgotten it, with social media comments ranging from “what a throwback” to “I loved these - I must ask someone once a month if they remember them 😂😂.”
New survey data from Tango reveals 89% of Millennials feel nostalgic for discontinued food and drinks from their childhood while 73% of Gen Z Brits have searched social media for retro or discontinued snacks and drinks from the 2000s or 2010s.
Now, Tango is bringing the fan favourite back with only 2,000 cans up for grabs via social media creator-led drops, giving Millennials the chance to relive a taste of their youth and Gen Z the opportunity to discover a 2010s cult classic for the very first time.
Topping the list of things Gen Z want to come back from the 2010s alongside Turbo Tango are:
· Phones actually coming with chargers and headphones in the box (46%)
· The iPod (40%)
· 3D Movies (26%)
· Wearing high heels on a night out (20%)
Though the younger generation of Brits might be embracing 2010s culture in 2026, Tango's research also spotlights the everyday habits of Millennial life from the early 2010s that have left Gen Z Brits baffled and need to stay in the past:
· Signing in and out of instant messenger to get someone’s attention (31%)
· Poking people on social media (30%)
· Waiting weeks for holiday photos to be developed (29%)
· Turning up at a friend’s house without messaging first (29%)
Dave Laidler, Brand Director at Carlsberg Britvic said: “Fifteen years ago, we all had different hairstyles, different music tastes and, let’s be honest, some questionable fashion choices. We might look back and cringe at parts of the 2010s but some things are worth bringing back.
We’ve seen the fan chatter, online petitions, and the demand for a return build over the years and the enthusiasm for Turbo Tango has never faded.
As we bring back ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ across a variety of different touchpoints this summer, we’re excited to introduce the cult classic that is Turbo Tango to a whole new generation – while giving the fans who remember it the chance to enjoy a taste of nostalgia all over again. 2011 called, and we answered.”
Tango tapped into this nostalgia earlier this summer by reviving its iconic ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ marketing line and is now taking things one step further by relaunching the cult-favourite Turbo Tango for a new generation of Tango fans.
With only a limited run available, once they're gone, their gone. The first chance to get your hands on the new Turbo Tango will be at the Turbo Tango Lab Party at Gorilla in Manchester on 9th September, between 4:00pm-6:30pm. JV and Biggs will be hosting a second creator drop in another UK city the following week. For more information on this, head to @drinktango and @jvandbiggss for full details.
